Year after year, man destroys large tracts of rainforest. Economic interests are always behind these actions, where only important is an indivudual and immediate benefit. Nobody never think of the collective welfare, or the benefits of conserving nature long term. The ancient inhabitants of the jungle, know well the importance of preserving the environment. Therefore they use the system of shifting cultivation and let the land rest for a while to be regenerated. A few years back, they burn the plot already cultivated before, so the ashes serve as fertilizer and do not destroyed more jungle. When this Indian was preparing his field to be planted, at the jungle of Chiapas, in southern Mexico, the ground was still smoking.
