In the Women's Social Rehabilitation Center, in Quito, there are more than fifty women deprived of liberty. The most frequent ofences by those who are in this situation have to do with drug trafficking or theft. There are also women who are there for not paying the alimony of their sons, even after they where battered and abandoned by their husbands. This is de case of Amanda. Her story speak of abuse, infidelity and marginalization. Moistened eyes, her face twisted and the scars of her body are traces of violence should never suffer. Without family support and economic resources she has been cornered to look life in the street and live badly. She attempted suicide in a disheartened desire of escape from a desperate existence. The same despair and helplessness that feel at being locked up and understand that her sentence, judicial and life, is also that of her daughters and sons.
