It is licit to affirm that the whole society of Burkina Faso, as well as many other african countries lies heavy on women’s hard work. The improvement of feminine condition in Africa is still one of the biggest challenges of humanitarian organizations. But empirical data remain alarming. Many women of Burkina Faso keep dying in a very preventable way during pregnancy and childbirth because of discrimination that prevents their access to sanitary services and forbids them from taking important decisions on their own pregnancy. Most of Burkinabé women’s life is in men’s hands. They have no autonomy on decision-making, no access to medical treatments, no power on desired pregnancy and physiological space between one and the other. Although the law provides for equality between men and women, women are still forced to combined marriages and undergo genital mutilations. Bordering a small ONG based near Ouagadougou, I followed the activities of a maternity center who daily works in the field to improve young mothers’ medical conditions and try to inform them on contraception issues. What I here propose is a small selection from this work.
