The Kalahari is known for the most incredible skies, especially in the rainy season in summer these are are at their most spectacular. These skies will show you colors you have never seen before, each time again. The stark silhouette of a lone Shepard tree atop a dune ridge provided a nice foreground for one of these amazing skies, one that does justice also to this remarkable tree. The Shepard tree namely is a very valuable tree in the Kalahari for both man and animals. It not only provides shade, but all parts of the plant have medicinal, flavor or food uses. It is also one of the few trees that will actually grow on the slopes of a dune. Location: Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, Nossob Riverbed, Botswana/South Africa Subject: Shepard tree (Boscia albitrunca)
