These images capture the devastating effects of an invasive form of coal mining called mountaintop removal. This practice is more effective at gathering coal than deep mining, but blowing off the tops of the mountains is adversely affecting both humans and animals in the Appalachian region due to the toxic runoff into the precious waterways. Viewing the devastation from the air is unbelievable - a full 360 degree view of nothing but mountaintop removal sites.
