This image was inspired by a novel by Herman Hesse, Narcissis and Goldmund. In it Hesse explores the responsibilities a young man has to himself and his community and how these choices shape a man. He also comments on his communities lack of expectation, something which I as a young Australian man can relate to. “You had a picture of life within you, a faith, a challenge and you were ready for deeds and sufferings and sacrifices, and then you became aware by degrees that the world did not demand any deeds and sacrifices from you what so ever and that life is not a poem of heroism with heroic parts to play”. I have used a friend of mine in this image who is one of the hardest working people I know, the epitome of true blue.
