Trastevere is the cool place in Rome across the river from the Colosseum and the Pantheon. It is where young lovers and party-loving professional hang out to get their colorful kicks. It is also the original home to Rome's first Jews (who were ousted to crumbier conditions across town in 1555) and to the poor! The church in this Piazza is patron to these people but the stark contrast still exists between the privileged and the forlorn.
