Caral, Perú is the recently discovered city now established as the oldest civilization in North, Central, and South America. Scholars have long considered five locations as the birthplaces of civilized man— Mesopotamia, Egypt, China, India, and Mesoamerica — but Caral is acknowledged as the sixth “cradle of civilization” site, and the wellspring of the South American societies. In June 2009, UNESCO acknowledged this amazing discovery by naming Caral a World Heritage Site, calling it “the oldest centre of civilization in the Americas.” The book is published by the University of Chicago Press and the University of San Martin de Porres Press.
