As much as the scale of the ocean eclipses this lone tanker, the crude oil it contains is sufficient to cause great irreversible harm to the former's ecology. This photo was taken on site not long after an oil spill off the Singapore Strait. The spill was the result of a collision between a merchant ship and an oil tanker, which punctured the tanker’s hull, spilling 2,500 tons of crude oil into the Strait. Although the slick has since been cleared, tankers such as these will continue to shuttle the oceans posing a perpetual threat.
