South Africa has the largest HIV positive population in the world. 18% 15-49 year olds are HIV positive. It is estimated to be as high as 30% in the country's townships. 5.7 million South Africans are living with HIV including 280,000 children under 15 years old, the number will exceed 6 million by 2015, by which time around 5.4 million South Africans will have died of AIDS. St Lukes Hospice in the impoverished area of Mitchells Plain in Cape Town cares for those dying of Aids related illnesses.
