This photo portrays a Haitian man after the January, 2010 earthquake. This photo was taken in his home, a hot shack made from sticks and sheet metal. This Haitian father willingly gave up two of his daughters to be adopted by an American family. He said he knew they would have a better life in America. He knew his daughter's would be treated better in America and wanted to protect his girls from the dangers of living on the streets of Port Au Prince.

Story

Following the earthquake in January, this Haitian father willingly gave up two of his daughters to be adopted by an American family. This man's wife was suffering from an illness and he knew he could not take care of his wife and daughters at the same time. He said they would have a better life in America. He knew his daughter's would be treated better and wanted to protect his girls from the dangers of living on the streets of Port Au Prince.
