To create these self-portrait images, I chose to work with film and the gelatin silver process. The overall feeling produced by this method of photography is one of searching, internally and externally. By working in a darkroom, I can directly connect to the images. It is because I literally use my body to adjust the tonal value on the prints. In the darkness, I feel as if I am dancing with light to create the images. When I see the images gradually appear in the developer, I felt as if I am witnessing something inside me.

Story

Searching the meeting point of soul and body, and my own original shape.
To create these images, I chose to work with film and the gelatin silver process. When I am using film, I don't have the ability to instantly check my work, as I do with a digital camera. I can't clearly know what the results are going to be. Thus, the overall feeling produced by this method of photography is one of searching, internally and externally. Since I used a self-timer to photograph myself, I had to hold many poses, 10 seconds each time. After working many hours to find an expressive shape, I gradually had pains in my body. They began to add meaning to this project, for the pains reminded me that I'm alive.
By working in a darkroom, I can directly connect to the images. It is because I literally use my body to adjust the tonal value on the prints. In the darkness, I feel as if I am dancing with light to create the images. When I see the images gradually appear in the developer, I felt as if I am witnessing something inside me.
