I am applying for this competition on behalf of a Pakistani photographer called Gohar Ayub. I work for relief organization in Pakistan and Mr. Ayub is our contracted photographer is some of the most inaccessible ares. The picture is of a school boy in north west Pakistan. An area ravaged with conflict however Gohar emphasizes the innocence, beauty, and a promise for a better future with this picture.

Story

The picture shows a school boy from war torn North West Pakistan. The U.S., Pakistan Army, and the Taliban have terrorized these regions for long leaving it with traumatized children who are slowly reclaiming their rights to education and a normal life. When I saw this picture, I immediately thought of the National Geographic's renowned photo of the Afghan Girl on the cover of 1985 edition. It is of that intensity and beauty.
