Japanese macaques are the most northern living non-human primates. The Japanese macaque lives in mountainous areas of Honshū, Japan. They can survive winter temperatures below -15 °C (5°F), and are perhaps most notable for the amount of time they spend in naturally heated volcanic hot springs. These photographs have been made over a period of several years.
