This shot was taken last year at Deadvlei, Namibia. The combination of the skeletons of dead camelthorn trees, the white cracked soil, and the red sand dunes, make for a very surreal landscape. The dry desert air, the cloudless skies and the lack of light pollution make this the perfect spot to shoot the night sky. I used a small torch to paint the tree with light during the first 30 seconds of the exposure to add atmosphere and to create depth. Total exposure time is about six hours.
