Laos is the most heavily bombed country in the world per capita due to a heavy aerial bombardment led by the CIA during the Vietnam Conflict. To this day, the Laos landscape is littered with unexploded bombs. In 2003, Ta was injured in a cluster munition accident resulting in the loss of both his arms and his right eye. He now advocates locally and internationally to ban cluster munitions and other weapons that indiscriminately target civilians.
