In 1991, the Republic of Yugoslavia was coming to its end and its constituting countries were fighting for independence. After Bosnia claimed independence in 1992, a war broke out and lasted from 1992-1995. A genocide, carried out by bosnian-serb forces, was taking place in eastern Bosnia, aiming at the extinction of muslim life. At the peak of the atrocities in July 1995, more than 8.000 muslims were murdered by serb forces in Srebrenica. Today, 15 years later and with Bosnia now officially at peace, one can still see and feel the aftermath of the genocide.
