I was photographing this iconic Arkansas red cedar tree at sunset. As I was putting the camera gear in my backpack a slight glow appeared at the horizon about 10 minutes after sunset. It occurred to me that with a wide angle lens I might be able to capture an image of both night and day in the same exposure. This lens has a natural vignetting that is normally corrected with a filter but instead I used it to balance the exposure of the glowing sky during the 20 second exposure. Since there was a slight breeze I took three exposures hoping the wind would be calm enough to keep the tree foliage sharp.
