For me, it has always been touching to watch the transition between day and night: the world seems to leap into desperate darkness, while artificial lights starts to bring hope and warmth into our surroundings. The transition creates a strange and unsteady balance in my mind. In Chinese, "Gas Stations"and "add gas" means encouragement and keep going. Gas Stations gives energy silently and steadily to people where ever in Taiwan, the island I live in. Partly inspired by Bernd and Hilla Becher, who began their work at my current age, I have decided to photograph 24 gas stations around Taiwan to encourage my 24th year in life.
