i took these photographs while visiting my mother's side of the family in rural tennessee. the farm land they live on has been passed down through generations and many of my family members have been born on this earth. at the time these photographs were taken, my grandmother and her sisters lived here in three houses-- side-by-side. the photographs selected from the larger series are of my aunt lean, who at the time was suffering from alzheimer's disease. these photographs capture both the confusion and pain engendered by dementia as well as the knowing eyes and presence of the soul within. video montage of entire series featured here:http://www.vimeo.com/18862709
