Disastrous events that carry a sense of hopelessness are often part of the refinement process both in nature and in life. Fire comes, breaks down, and destroys, leaving painful scars, but in the process, sows new seeds of life that when nourished, will grow more beautifully and stronger than before. This hillside along with 1,100 acres near the Snake River in Bridger Teton National Forest were scorched by wildfire in 2003. Five years later, the hill was teeming with signs of new life.
