These are portraits of women from the middle / upper-middle socio-economic classes of Saudi society in Jeddah. These women are educated and have supportive “legal guardians”. A woman in Saudi Arabia has a male legal guardian no matter how old she is, which means she is not allowed to do various tasks such as opening a bank account, going to school, or traveling without his consent. I photographed 7 women in Jeddah while assisting a photographer, and plan to go back and continue the series to include other women with more diverse lifestyles, and more varied educational, and economic backgrounds.
