Shot in the bay of Qanaaq, northern Greenland. This image was shot in the middle of the night, in 24 hour daylight. The bay breaks up towards the end of June. This image was captured a few days before the bay broke up entirely. The large puddles testify to the degree of open water and broken sea ice. Journeying on foot in those last stages can be precarious, but offers spectacular reflections due to the high density of the frigid water. The bay traps these large icebergs in the fall as they make their way to the ocean, forcing them to "winter over".
