Climate change is causing accelerated sea level rise and an increase of the salinity of the Sundarbans in southern Bangladesh. Just on the other side of the forest the landscape is desert like. The deeply cracked soil is not allowing any plant to spring up. Originally the people are farmers in this area but this soil was more than one and a half year under salt water after the devastating cyclone Aila, raved over southern Bangladesh during May 2009.Many left the area and migrated to other parts of Bangladesh. The ones who stayed are facing a lot of hardship.
