Melilla is a Spanish city, located in the north of Africa. It is bordered by the Mediterranean Sea and by Morocco. Since 1497 the region is politically part of Spain. Due to its geographical location, Melilla has increasingly been a target of illegal migration. For the migrants, that come mainly from Subsaharan-Africa and Asia, the enclave is primarily a transit point on their way to the European Union. To stop the rush to Melilla, a six meter high fence was built in 1996. We documented the temporary life, that the migrants in Melilla are creating, while they are waiting for a decision about their fate.
