"Sand And Water" The Gabtoli Bricks Field Dhaka, Bangladesh. During the past 20 years, due to the concentration of local and foreign investments, Dhaka has been experiencing massive migration and a huge urbanization. As a direct consequence, its building industry has quickly grown to satisfy city needs. Tens of thousands of pieceworkers are employed in the business to earn 2-3 USD per day. The Gabtoli district hosts just one of Dhaka's "Brick Fields": places where the bricks' production takes place and locations where building materials arrive from the manufacturers, usually on boats, to be accumulated and sold. Hundreds of families work here in inhuman and unsafe conditions. Children are employed in daily work with no chance to achieve a pimary education. Child labour has been forbidden by law in Bangladesh since 1992 but it is part of a vicious cycle, with poverty as a main cause as well as a main consequence. Piecework system and poverty lead workers and their families to a modern form of slavery.
