Dignity for Palestine #2

PhotographerSandra Chen Weinstein
Entry Description

The elder mother of Imad Abu Zahra, the fallen freelance photographer killed in an assignment in an attacked by Israeli raid in Jenin. Evidence shows the IDF was aware he was wearing a jacket identified as a member of the press; they targeted him in spite of it. It seems to be part of a larger more dangerous time - hundreds of journalists were killed in the Middle East in the first decade of the 21st century. Israel continues its illegal construction of the separation wall extending from East Jerusalem to the West Bank, beyond the 1967 green line (by International Court Justice). The 167 kilometer wall (part of the 790 km total) includes 73 crossings, 60 gates, and roadblocks. The lives of Palestinians have been shattered by the enduring hardships of life under occupation. The physical, social, political, psychological and military barriers to trade and commerce severely limit economic growth and quality of daily life under the apartheid-like system of Israel's continuing occupation of the Palestinian Territories.
