When people talk about Detroit, they only ever mention the shattered landscape, and feelings of loss associated with what they now see. Before I started this series of portraits, I knew no one currently living in Detroit or the surrounding area. I searched for willing people to help me out by attending art shows, concerts, and local venues. The people I came into contact with were some of the most welcoming and genuine people I’ve met. They completely changed my outlook on the city, which is what I hope to achieve with the photos I have left there with.
