The driver parked the trailer there, briefly, just long enough for me to take the image. Monument Valley has been used as the stage for advertisements representing American West's idea of freedom and individualism. Monument Valley is part of the Navajo Nation and the portraits are of a Navajo man who lives and works on the Land and his son. With this images I want to lament a loss to us all. A gradual loss, in both nature and culture all over the world. Sadly fitting to my theme, the progressively fading, grainy images, are due, not to a creative decision on my part but, rather, to the X-rays employed at airports. Fading images of fading cultures. I used a medium format camera and b&W film.
