I was on vacation in Iceland in May 2011, touring the country and enjoying the wonderful photo opportunities at every turn. I kept commenting how odd the sky and light was. I just thought it was typical for Iceland and made for moody photos. Once I got into a city and turned on the television, I found out that the Grimsvotn volcano erupted. That explained a lot.
