In Delhi, India, hundreds of thousand of people live off the 8,500 tons of garbage produced daily by this megacity, which has no decent recycling system. For thousands of impoverished migrants arriving from the countryside or from Bangladesh, collecting and sorting garbage is the only source of income at hand. Men, women, elders and children work without protective gear in horrendous conditions and face constant harassment from the police for their 'illegal' activities. Yet, they are saving the city of Delhi more than 260 million rupees per year by their work.
