Abdul Ahad and Abdul Rashid. In 1997 their family and about a thousand others were escaping Charakar to Panshir. The Taliban were taking over their city and killing everyone, including animals, that they could find. Their father sent them with other women and children riding in a Kamaz truck that was loaded with ammunition. A Taliban rocket landed close to the truck on the road. The truck rolled into an embankment, killing six women and injuring thirteen. The three children were paralyzed instantly under the truck. The family moved back to Charakar six months later when the Northern Alliance took back the city.
