The economic crisis hit Portugal severely. Despite several attempts by the government to save the welfare state, there is a generational group with over 65, for which old age has become a matter of survival. The forgotten generation of my grandparents now live with a minimum pension of 250€, and subsists thanks to the support of Social solidarity institutions that are already responsible for 80% of social services in Portugal. The ones that are still able to work, are now forced to delay or return from retirement to create a small complement to their retirements, help their children, or support their medical expenses.
