This was my first trip down into Hancock Gorge and because I was unfamiliar with the effect that different light would have in the canyons, I decided to head down before the sun rose for the day and started my descent alone and in darkness. I climbed down the side of the steep canyon and once I hit the bottom it became apparent to me quite quickly that there had been significant rain recently with plenty of water flowing through the canyon, I was going to have to get very wet. To make my way through the gorge I had to hop over slippery rocks, wade through chest deep water holes, climb down through treacherous narrow waterfalls and climb along thin rock ledges as best I could with 20+kg of camera gear on my back. I loved every minute of it, and was happy I made it through to this incredible waterfall in the dark without any injuries. By the time I arrived it was twilight and soon the sun rose for the day lighting up the red rock in the gorge walls beautifully. I spent a couple of hours trying a number of different shots and this is now one of my favourite all time shots.
