“Imagination will often carry us to worlds that never were. But without it we go nowhere.”- Carl Sagan There is a certain kind of awareness that is gained through looking longer, closer and deeper at the world around us. Our intuition sharpens, creativity sparks and imagination is set free to explore infinite possibilities. Mud on the sidewalk becomes a mountain range. A stain in the gutter becomes an ocean, and leaves and trash become birds and fish. String theory tells us that everything in the universe is made of the same tiny vibrating particles of energy, a mindboggling and intriguing thought. Amit Goswami stated, “Every object is not a determined thing but consists of possibilities.” The Stain Series strives to be a visual manifestation of this quantum activist concept. This Series started in 2011 and is ongoing. I photograph found stains on the pavement in gutters and around the neighborhood pond. The photographs are processed in Lightroom and printed through Photoshop. I use five basic tools, crop, dodge & burn, brightness & contrast, saturation, and the clone tool for removing dust on my sensor or lens. The stains are photographed as they are with very little manipulation in Photoshop.
