Most of my work is documenting poverty for a humanitarian aid organization in the developing world and I often carry home the suffering of so many people I am honored to photograph. I had just arrived home after my second post-earthquake trip to Haiti and I headed to Yosemite National Park desperately needing to see the beauty of the natural world, rather than its destructive power. I prayed it would snow during my visit, and I waited. For me the landscapes of the American West are a healing balm to the soul.
