The Kanun is the collection of customary laws of the "people of eagles". It ruled the relationships between individuals and clans of the community. It defended the community from rule's violation: a dishonor and an infamy which imposed the enforcement of law of revenge. Gjakmarrje means "vengeance of blood" in Albanian. The revenge was inherited to defend the honor of the clan. The infamy can be extinguished only with blood or with forgiveness, after having lived as prisoners for years. The Code is not in use anymore, but the revenge is still inherited and the Kanun, became excuse for showdown.

The 122 Art. of Kanun is about the truce and it reads:
"If the man's family don't want give the truce, the murderer and his cousins, must remain in the house."
"For those who have made murder, fleeing and hiding is an obligation."

I visited a fugitive in the mountains, he was hiding in Duckajini Mountains, because his brother killed the son of the mill's owner. Sometimes families are locked in the house for decades.
