Photographs taken of mainly headgear at various mining sites in South Africa.

Story

For 2 and a half years I have been photographing mines throughout my country. The discovery of gold more than a century ago, led to a gold rush which in turn was the foundation of the modern day, local economy. The profitable gold is slowly running out and I try to get to the decommisisioned mines before the demolition squads move in. It costs too much to protect an unused mine from looters and squatters so many are knocked down and sold as scrap. I have taken more than 55000 photos of mines and my ultimate dream is to publish a heritage book about the industry for posterity.
