The plantain leaf is part of a plant that produces the known plantain fruit, an essential food, and a popular icon of national identity in the Caribbean island of Puerto Rico. One leaf was extracted from its natural context and photographed as an "organic sculpture", where each a new form leads to the transformation of the preceding one. The dark background highlights the luminous values of the images and sets a new visual pattern of the photographed object. This alludes to how cultural icons have historically assumed new forms and different uses.
