This is my internal journey with my little self, to reconcile my present with my past.
This is my internal journey with my little self, to reconcile my present with my past, something I've neglected for a long time. I used a Holga and opened the shutter for a long time in a small dim room, and recorded myself on film. Not sure of what the outcome would be, I was very surprised when I first glimpsed the negative -- I felt I had captured a self portrait of me as both an adult and child. Long exposure in dim light, finding images of myself as both adult and child, with the toy camera.
Toko Shiiki was born in Japan. She lived, learned, and experienced in Tokyo most of her life and moved to Michigan, USA 2005. She exhibits her work nationally and has earned multiple awards. ********* I have a passion for photography that tells a story. Many of my images are inspired by dreams and my life experiences. I have been working on the "inner-life documentary" project, to visualize what I've experienced at this present time. I find photography to be a most effective way to express my view of the world (inside and outside.) No matter what my subject is, I want to create images that tell a story. But it is my hope that every time people see my photographs, they will feel encouraged to interpret the images in their own way. Art is my life power, and I am still finding ways to let it speak through me.
