The series “Watermelons in pyjamas” is a work photographed in Seville, Andalusian. I photographed from a plane a farming of watermelons. The surprising of the photos is that each watermelon is covering by clothes. The effect is very striking. From a business standpoint, farmers are looking for a replacement of hay which may offer a best value for money. The clothing we throw away has become cheaper by weight than hay. This work is a critical to the consumerism and pollution.

Story

Hay has been used traditionally in crops in order to maintain humidity and to prevent the attacks of insects.

From a business standpoint, farmers are looking for a replacement of hay which may offer a best value for money.

The clothing we throw away has become cheaper by weight than hay. So how did we come to this? Do we continue to increase our consumption because of brands, publicity, a need of short-life clothing...?

Sixty years ago, before the welfare state, our grandparents had a special suit for Sundays. Nowadays we enjoy a wardrobe for each season, we are lacking space in it and we renew it periodically. How many times did we change before coming to any exhibition?

The pollution generated by the clothing industry, the relocation of companies searching for a cheaper labour force in Asia or the need for environmental regulations in that continent are thoughts that we do not dare to bear in mind when it comes to our over consumption habits.
