In this work i try to get to the bottom of the way civilization may have lived or acted in their specific surroundings before they were gone. In 2002 I started to discover deserted accommodations. Till now I have forced my way into diverse empty housings and have captured the peculiar and tremendous aesthetic of these desolated dwellings. I become an intruder and a spy who touches the once private lives and surroundings of other inhabitants to investigate their legacies. You are able to feel the aura to which space, time and living things are melt together. Some things which first got used and then laid back seem misused in a way and come forward as a witness to a fact. Relicts are marks of life and give hints to something that could have happened.

Story

Empties

Run-down rooms, basically nothing out of the ordinary until you begin to read it`s marks of life.
In 2002 I started to discover deserted accommodations. Since then I have forced my way into diverse empty housings and have captured the peculiar and tremendous aesthetic of these desolated dwellings.
I become an intruder and a spy who touches the once private lives and surroundings of other inhabitants to investigate their legacies. I don`t simply enter deserted buildings rather than “social-and biospheres” to analyze the complex stories of things left behind. When things have got experienced by it`s inhabitants their spatial existence has got broaden and duplicated through this fact.
As a result souled habitats and spaces come into existence and you are able to feel the aura to which space, time and living things are melt together. I photograph the all too individual and co-incidental that is manifested in relicts that lie around.
On the basis of these “lie-around” the kind of contemporary usefulness of rooms and spaces can be defined. Some things which first got used and then laid back seem misused in a way and therefore come forward as a witness to a fact. That is how it happens that people tackle the problem of what seems to be a banal situation.
The objective habitat turns into a medial giving all material objects a new meaning.
Relicts are marks of life and give hints to something that could have happened.
since 2002 i have travelled throughout Europe photographing desolated and deserted dwellings.
Acting as a visual historian i try to capture precisely composed pictures with a conceptual meaning beyond my aesthetical output. In this work i try to get to the bottom of the way civilization may have lived or acted in their specific surroundings before they were gone.
All images are photographed with a linhof 4x5 inch camera on Kodak negative film.
