They told me that if I entered the canyon from ‘this end’ it would involve a jump off of a 40ft cliff into the waters of the Somoto Canyon below. That sounded awesome to me so “Let’s Get Going Then!” was my response. It was an all day trip to traverse the canyon from top to bottom and what I didn’t expect was the amazing beauty that this little canyon in the middle of nowhere held. We were at the end of the canyon, the day was basically over and we were just steps away from leaving the river and for me it was likely I would never return, when I spied this amazing scene. The river had widened and in this one spot the wide river funneled into this narrow drop off creating a natural curl in the water. It was something I had never seen before. Had I been a week before or a week later the water levels would have been different and I might not have ever seen it at all.
