Self-portrait is both self-knowledge and self-positioning. The pose reminds of images of the Crucifixion of Jesus. I wanted my picture to be symbolic. I was thinking about connection between Art and sacrifice and I came to the conclusion that they have always been interconnected. To practise Art one has to set aside everything else. Many artists reject the so called ‘normal life’ to dedicate themselves to Art. Eventually, it’s a kind of sacrifice: one throws away tranquillity, stability, relationships, everything just to dedicate oneself to creation.
