Situating Surface is a photographic video installation. On the left, aspiring Los Angeles models watch Hollywood films. There are 8 models shown in sequence. Only their reactions are shown. On the right are beach landscapes from the greater Los Angeles area. There are 9 beaches. These two 70 min loops are projected across from one another in the gallery space, suggesting a point of focus and presenting a displaced target. This introduces a staged conversation between the two dislocated images. The actors play themselves for the camera, as do the beach-goers for one another. The viewer is caught in between.
