In 2012, after many years of being a “daylight photographer,” I began exploring the night with my camera. Feelings of loneliness and isolation are more profound in the depth of the night. And there is a sense of doing something subversive. But, like the moon punching through the blackness, everywhere I find symbols of an enduring humanity. These images were captured using moonlight or available streetlight. Often it is so dark that there are things I don’t see until after the image is processed. Maybe night photography is as much about what is not seen as what is seen.
