Story

Persona is a cognitive research on different identities harbouring our selves. Images talk about the disclosing of human being through the use of two colors that represent the opposite: black and white, light and shadow, but also empty and full, visible and obscure, good and bad, real and unreal or desired. Capturing human moods and incongruities through the scenography of feminine body is the aim of the project. Dark and light become metaphor for our personalities. Aren’t we all made of contradictions? Each time we decide to reveal a side, actually we do hide another.
Black and white, light and shadow, the visible is like the invisible. Opposites coexist together. We are white and black at the same time. Absolute truth and false do not exist but hybridly live side by side. Both sides remain unknowable. In this relies the mystery of life. As same as Yin and Yang, black and white complete each others. Unreal truth of human being essence is together reality and representation.
The project is presented by a series of five dipthycs which move from a detailed to a wider view: a journey from internal to external perspective.
Persona has a controversial etymological origin. The Latin term “persona(m)” indicates a theatrical mask and derives from “per- sonare”: to sound through; term that later on took the meaning of character and so individual.
A mask allows approaching to non visible realities, which otherwise could not unveil. Therefore a mask does not hide, but reveals.
Light and shadow, both material and metaphorical, as a mask, become an instrument for knowing ourselves. A painful experience, but necessary to personal growth.
