A work about Val Susa that I started when I took part in NO TAV movement one year and a half ago. I felt the need to step back from a stereotypical description of this struggle and focus on the landscape, dive into it and deepen its knowledge. This meant I learnt to love those places and developed the will for defending them. Understand and share the rage that calls for a uncompromising ‘no’.

Story

I could have thrown stones, unleash my rage, passionately hate.
But I was shallow and I decided, in the bid of rendering reality photogenic, to treat those days of fight as plastic transpose reality into images that can trigger memories.
Make the best of the experience.
In those days I needed an awakening punch. 8th of December 2011 was the icy water that brought me back to reality. Not the teargas in Clarea but the people around me. For i lived – with the naiveness of the first time – the growing tension of those days of struggle.
In the 19months following that, I nurtured opposing feeling, in a tension between parting and getting closer. On one hand I tried the hardest to go back to Val Susa and get involved in the struggle, bonding with the locals, meeting comrades, mapping out trails. On the other hand I backed off in the search for a descriptive stance.
I felt the need to step back and focus on the landscape, dive into it and deepen its knowledge.
This meant I learnt to love those places and developed the will for defending them. Understand and share the rage that calls for a uncompromising ‘no’.
My experience was bounded to my one and a half year of involvement in a twenty years long fight. The Val Susa struggle to defend the land is many sided and embraces a diversity and multiplicity of practices and points of view.
I’m just one of those points of view.
