Fire. Air. Water. Earth These four elements have been considered the foundations of the Earth to many religions and civilizations. Playing great importance in their believes. Many of the civilizations had Gods linked to each element; like Zeus for the Greek and Jupiter for the Romans as God of the Sky. Poseidon for the Greek and Neptune for the Romans representing Water, or Vulcan for the Romans as Fire. The Egyptians, Babylonians, Greeks, Ancient Chinese and Japanese; alike practitioners of Hinduism and Buddhism all had their own associations with the elements. Since long ago observations of the states of matter led to water being liquid, air – gas, fire – plasma, and earth – solid. In modern science all the elements are grouped by their state of matter into these four phases. In Astrology, the Zodiac signs are grouped into the four elements. Water being Scorpio, Cancer and Pisces. Earth is Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn. Fire is Aries, Leo and Sagittarius. And Air is Gemini, Libra and Aquarius. The Chinese incorporate the unity of the five elements being Earth, Metal, Wood, Water and Fire into Philosophy, Metaphysics, Astrology, Astronomy and Ancient Chinese Medicine like Ayurveda. They even recommend arranging your house for increased harmony and prosperity in life according to the elements. In another culture, the Japanese perceive the Elements as Water being Liquid, Earth is Solid, Fire is Destruction and Air is things that move. With my abstract images; I connect and search for deeper meaning of the elements and find fascination in the patterns, colors and textures found in Nature.
