Over a two year period I documented the war sites and landscapes in Flanders Fields from both an aesthetic and a historical perspective. I shot my photographs mainly in the early morning or late evening, at times of day when the ordinary visitor does not get to see these world famous locations. The outcome was a series of images of unique tranquillity. In this book I give a contemporary impression of the historic locations and events. The images represent, beside a historical perspective, also an aesthetic aspect of the memory.
